Someone to talk to, in the heart of Wimborne.

Six qualified counsellors, psychotherapists and a clinical psychologist work independently from our quiet first-floor rooms on East Street. Get in touch with any of them directly, or tell us what's going on and we'll help you choose.

What to expect. Details vary from one therapist to another. These are true of all of them.

  • Qualified and registered

Every counsellor and psychotherapist is fully qualified and works within a recognised ethical framework, such as the BACP, UKCP, NCPS or HCPC.

  • Private by design

Therapists coordinate their appointment times so clients rarely arrive or leave at the same moment as someone else.

  • A first conversation, no commitment

Most offer a free phone call or an initial appointment, so you can see whether they feel like the right fit before going further.

  • Many ways of working

Person-centred, psychodynamic, existential, CBT, EMDR, IFS and more. You can choose an approach, or simply choose a person.

  • In the room, online or by phone

Alongside face-to-face sessions, several therapists work by video or telephone, and one offers walk-and-talk sessions outdoors.

  • Early, late and weekends

The centre is open from 8am to 10pm every day, with different therapists working at different times.

Questions people often ask

How do I choose a therapist?

Start with whoever you feel drawn to. Read a few profiles, notice who you could imagine talking to, and get in touch. Most therapists offer a free call or an initial appointment, so you can find out how it feels before committing.

If you'd rather not choose, send us an enquiry and we'll pass it to the therapist best placed to help.

How much does it cost?

Each therapist sets their own fees. At the moment sessions range from £50 to £120, and several therapists keep some lower-cost places for students and people on limited incomes. Fees are listed on each profile where the therapist has shared them.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. You can contact any of the therapists directly. If you're using health insurance, check what your insurer needs before your first session.

How long are sessions, and how often?

Most sessions last 50 to 55 minutes and take place weekly, usually at the same time each week. Some people come for a handful of sessions; others for much longer. You and your therapist will agree what works for you.

Is it confidential?

Yes. All of the therapists work within a professional ethical framework. At your first session your therapist will explain how they keep your information safe and the rare situations, such as a serious risk of harm, in which they might need to share something.

Can I have sessions online or by phone?

Several therapists offer sessions by video or telephone as well as in person. You can filter the therapist directory by format.

Do you see children and young people?

Yes. Catherine Manners works with young people from age 12, and Dr Leanne Timings works with people of all ages.

What if I need to cancel?

Each therapist has their own cancellation policy, which they'll explain when you start. Commonly, sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged in full.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us a little about what's going on and how you'd like to be contacted. Your message goes to the centre, and we'll pass it to the therapist best placed to help. There's no obligation.
